How to

1 Registration

To apply for social housing you need to complete an online application form by clicking on the Register tab at the top of the page.

It is a two stage application process. First you will need to complete details about your household followed by a full and detailed application form. Full completion of the form is essential.

If you are struggling with the online form or need assistance with accessing the service, contact the Homechoice advice line on 0300 123 5017 option 1.

2 Assessment

When we have received your electronic form we will make an assessment of your circumstances and award the appropriate banding.

In certain circumstances we may ask you to provide additional evidence

For a full breakdown of the Priority Bands please refer to the Allocations Policy by clicking on the More info tab at the top of the page.

3 Bidding

Once you have received confirmation of your registration you will be able to start bidding on properties. (No money or financial commitment is involved)

You may have a maximum of two bids in one bidding cycle.

The bidding cycle lasts for a week and runs from midnight on Wednesday to midnight on the following Tuesday. You may also swap or withdraw bids from one property to another within one bidding cycle.

You can place bids for properties on this website by logging into your application, click on the login tab at the top of the page.

If you are unable to place a bid online you can contact a Homechoice advisor on 03001235017 to place a bid on your behalf. Please have your application reference number and memorable date to hand.

** Homes to Buy and Homes Available NOW do not require bids and do not count towards your two weekly bids.

4  Offer
Properties will normally be offered to the household with the highest banding.

If there are two or more households with the same banding, priority will be given to the applicant that has been in that banding the longest (this is called the effective date)

Before making an offer, the landlord advertising the property may make further checks or ask you to provide additional evidence.

Once you have received an offer you will be given an opportunity to view the property. This will help you decide if you wish to accept the property.
